Second seed Jerry den Hartog and third seed Milan Petkovic are safely through to the semi-finals, beating Meilof Veeningen and Antonino Simone, respectively. However, fourth seed Mary de Wit succumbed to Dion Boesten.
Jerry den Hartog and Meilof Veeningen played an entertaining first set. In the end, one break difference was enough in the opening set as Den Hartog took it 6-3. With both players finding it visibly difficult to deal with the tropical conditions, Den Hartogs tactic of letting his opponent do the running started paying off in the second while Veeningen’s serve started getting more erroneous. Two breaks were exchanged to make it 1-1; after Den Hartog managed to break again to make it 2-1, it was plain sailing for the second seed and he didn’t waste any more time: 6-3, 6-1 was the final score.
Den Hartogs main comment: “Pffffffff….”. “My opponent played a good match; he was a tough competitor. However, some heavy blasts of wind in the second set tipped the balance of the match in my favour”. Den Hartog will play Milan Petkovic in the semi-finals. The third seed proved a step too far for Antonino Simone: that encounter finished within one hour at 6-1, 6-0.
Meanwhile, Mary de Wit lost in two sets to Dion Boesten: a tense first, after which Dion easily won the second. More to follow…
