With first seed Schoenmakers winning in three sets to set up a much anticipated “Berry v Jerry” final clash, this year’s edition of the EiPSI Open is inevitably heading to an exciting finish! The final will be played on Court 1 at Monday July 4, 16:00.
Friday morning, Schoenmakers needed almost three hours to dispose of the surprise package of this tournament, the unseeded southener Dion Boesten. This did not leave enough time for Berry to recover and play the final on Friday afternoon, so the tournament direction agreed with Berry and Jerry to postpone the final until Monday.
The “Magnificent Monday” match will see a clash of two contrasting styles. Jerry den Hartog dropped a set but eventually progressed against Milan Petkovic with technically proficient precision play, while Schoenmakers also dropped a set but got to the final playing a more passive kind of hard-hitting baseline tennis to progress against Dion Boesten. Den Hartog and Schoenmakers have played once before, with that encounter finishing undecided at one set all. This time though, there will be a winner — and he will earn the prestigious EiPSI Open 2011 cup!
Directly following the Schoenmakers v Den Hartog match, both the EiPSI Open 2011 Cup and the Fairplay Award will be handed out by representatives of the two prize sponsors of the tournament: snooker association Inchperfect and table tennis association Taveres.
